Red is the Rose
Come over the hills my bonny Irish Lass
Come over the hills to your darling
You choose the rose love and I'll take the vow
And I'll be your true love forever.
Chorus
So Red is the rose that in yonder garden grows
And fair is the lily of the valley
Clear is the water that flows from the Boyne
But my love is fairer than any.
Twas down by Killarney's green woodlands we strayed
The moon and the stars they were shining
The moon shone it's rays on her locks of golden hair
And she swore she'd be my love forever
(Then Chorus to Loch Lomond)
You take the high road and I'll take the low road
And I'll be in Glasgow before you
So me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonny bonny banks of Loch Lomond
Twas not for the parting of my sister Kate
Twas not for the death of my mother
Twas all for the loss of my bonny Irish Lass
That my heart is breaking forever
Chorus of Loch Lomond
Then Back to Chorus of Red is the Rose to finish
* I decided to record this song with the Chorus of Loch Lomond incorporated because the audiences here in Florida started to sing Loch Lomond as I sang Red is the Rose. Soon after that I noticed that both songs had the same melody and before long I too was singing along with everybody else. And that's how I sing it now here in Florida!
